ChildrenSong of New Jersey

ChildrenSong of New Jersey is a choral music education and performance program based in Haddonfield, New Jersey.  Established in 2000, the program serves 100 children in four choirs between the ages of 8 and 18 from Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester counties. The organization’s mission is to provide quality vocal music instruction with the goal of attaining the highest level of artistic excellence in choral music performance. Recent performance venues include The Academy of Music in Philadelphia, Carnegie Hall, and Rowan University’s Pfleeger Hall.

The Choir has performed with The Pennsylvania Ballet, Philadelphia Singers, Symphony in C, Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, Academy of Vocal Arts, and The Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as local community ensembles. ChildrenSong recently participated in several performances of Carmina Burana with The Pennsylvania Ballet and Philadelphia Singers, as well as with Rowan University’s Concert Choir.  The Choir has also participated in recording sessions locally and in New York City for professional artists and benefit projects. Recently, ChildrenSong was voted as Camden County’s Favorite Children’s Music Instruction in the 2nd Annual SoJo Happening List Competition for 2014.

ChildrenSong will celebrate its 15th Anniversary season with several new works commissioned by local composers, a spring song festival focused on sharing Japanese culture and music with South Jersey students and teachers, and an international tour for the advanced ensembles of the choir.

Polly Murray – Founding Artistic Director
Polly Murray is an accomplished choir director and music teacher who has served on the faculty of the Haddonfield School District for twenty years. She established the ChildrenSong program to provide performance experiences to South Jersey’s young vocalists who may not have access to such opportunities due to circumstances of their schooling.

Ms. Murray received degrees from Temple and Northwestern Universities, has pursued post-graduate work at Westminster Choir College, and studied at the Kodály Institute in Kecskemet, Hungary through a Geraldine Dodge Foundation Fellowship Grant.  She has been featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer and Camden County Courier-Post as an outstanding music teacher in the region and has received numerous education awards for her distinguished teaching practices and contributions to the arts in South Jersey. She has also directed children’s honor choirs on the regional and state levels.

In addition to teaching and conducting ensembles, Ms. Murray has presented numerous music workshops both statewide and internationally. In July 2014, she presented a choral workshop in Kasukabe, Japan for a prominent girls high school as part of a cultural exchange program.
