The Peabody Youth Orchestra
The Peabody Youth Orchestra is comprised of talented musicians from over 50 schools in the Baltimore Metropolitan region, Southern Pennsylvania, Delaware and Northern Virginia. The primary goal of the Peabody Youth Orchestra is to enrich the lives of participating musicians and their audiences, through the performance of orchestral repertoire at the highest possible level. The Peabody Youth Orchestra has performed symphonies by Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Borodin and Dvorak, and each spring accompanies the Preparatory Concerto Competition winner in the performance of the complete concerto. Past winners have performed works by Beethoven, Wieniawski, Mendelssohn and Lalo.
In addition to performing at the Miriam A. Friedberg Concert Hall at the Peabody Institute, the Peabody Youth Orchestra has given performances in Annapolis, Philadelphia, Montreal, CA and Buffalo. Students who have been members of the Peabody Youth Orchestra, and have chosen to pursue a music degree, have been accepted into major conservatories, universities and music schools across the country. Current members have also won competitions and performed with orchestras in the Baltimore metro region.
