It has been over six months since the March 11 catastrophic events in Tohoku region of Japan. My visit there just last week brought me both a sense of assurance that the region can rebound and the reality of the hardship of the people living in the region face. Many buildings which had suffered from the tremors have been repaired with little to remind of the disaster. People I met walking in the streets of Fukushima City hardly reminded me of the disaster of historic proportions occurred in the same area. I felt from them a strong sense of determination and pragmatism drawn from living in this country of islands which is known to suffer from earthquakes. At the same time, the strength they exert in trying to keep a normalcy and to work harder to rebuild cannot be overlooked. I was so glad that I had the chance to visit with them and bring our gift. And at the same time, I am thankful to those who helped and supported our effort with their gifts.
